News in the Links

So basically the continuation of the whole political post was to elaborate on how much I disliked all the Republican candidates except for one, Mike Huckabee.

And then, yesterday, while perusing through Google reader, Lo and Behold, I found this. Needless to say, I'm now surprised at the endorsements from the homeschooling community despite the fact discussed in the linked post. You've got Michael Farris, the Harris twins, and anyone else that I can't think of off the top of my head. I know the former realizes the situation but am not sure about the latter. (yeah, two endorsements justifies naming the whole homeschooling community, lol...kidding. *someone grumbles about the fallacy of composition* not all homeschoolers support Huckabee) As to my personal opinion on the issue, I don't know what to think of him now...still figuring out the pro's and con's, long term effects, etc.

On a more humorous note, if you enjoy a look at religious satire, this will definitely tickle the funny bone. Thanks to Colin for the link. ;)

If you have your doubts look at Mitt Romney. As for his mormonism, people are so ready to put Huckabee in on his Baptistism, why opt-out Romney on his Mormon views? After all overlooking Huckabee on certain issues because he is a Baptist (and he can do no wrong) means we could be putting a fanatic in office. All options; give Romney a chance, who knows he might be better?

In no way am I trying to opt-out Huckabee on his Baptist beliefs. Rather, I'd prefer he keep them because the foundation upon which those beliefs are built is more in line with what I believe compared to Romney. So, the "people" you refer to doesn't include myself. If, in fact, I were to follow your train of thought conversely seeing as I'm on the other side, I would expect Romney to step in line with his religion, which I do, because someone who has lived their life dedicated to a certain cause won't voluntarily toss it to the side for the sake of appeasing the crowds. In the past, Romney led his life sold out to the Mormon cause, and I find it almost funny he has the gut to reiterate the fact that he won't allow his religious beliefs to influence his decisions as President of the USA. His worldview, solid in Mormonism, cannot be disregarded by the American people.

In spirit of conversing. Correct, and has Romney shown a tendency to waver away from those beliefs? The answer to this point is no. However, we know that Huckabee and Romney won't differ from their beliefs (at least this far in the race). So, maybe a better question might be does America need a morally strong president, or an all rounded one? (Note, this doesn't mean Romney is immoral, just that he hasn't used morals as a base for his presidency to the extent Huckabee has.) For example, Huckabee will give you a president who will make strong moral decisions, and it will be these morals that guide him. Whereas, Romney will make moral decisions, but his presidency won't be limited to these moral issues. He is a very good business man, who success follows like a leach. Our economy isn't the strongest, and China isn't helping at all. Is a president who will strive to get rid of abortion etc. etc. the answer? Or a president who can bring America a step forward for the better, a step stronger, and a step safer the answer? Is it really the President's job to guide us morally, or is it our job to make sure we ourselves our living moral lives? Is it the families, and the churches job when it comes to moral issues? Don't get me wrong a moral president needs to be in office, but I don't think we need look for somebody as moral as Huckabee and limit it to him, Romney is just as qualified (if not more). The President doesn't need to lead us morally, he needs to protect the constitution, and America, thats the presidents job description. He's not leading the Lords church, he's leading a country made up of moral people, right?

Hi, you don't really know me. I am a friend of Jessicas. She linked to you about something in her archives and I couldn't help but see this post. Have you thought about Ron Paul? He is a Christian, he is in favor of homeschooling, he is pro-life. Is there something that I am missing? In Christ, Darby S.

Exactly, Zach. *grin*

Actually, Darby, I did consider Ron Paul before Huckabee. In fact, I supported him; that is, until I found out more. His viewpoints on the war, and also on defense overall, rather disappoints me, because for example, in response to an interview on MSNBC he basically stated that the US could be defended with some specific type of boat and nukes. (quoting him loosely, btw) That could almost be described as being naive. Yet, I do agree with him that we shouldn't have gone into Iraq in the first place, however, I believe we should continue in our current course of action instead of withdrawing suddenly without proper considerations to the overall situation. Also, he seems somewhat of a hothead, letting his emotions show more than necessary by almost appearing angry at times. If a person can't control themselves in appropriate ways, who's to say they won't apply that same principle to other things? And if there isn't a correct view (yes, that could be open to interpretation) on defense, and some country decided an attempt at invasion, what other issues really matter in such a situation? (albeit what was just described is hypothetical ;)

Hehe, but I've a valid reason called a temporary internet break, Tiffany. ;) It felt good not to be momentarily distracted by "the call of the internet" during the days I went without. Although I did continue in email... Ah, and I've already got a post coming along that should include New Year's stuff. :D
